Gruyères the second time.

While poor Roy had to slave away at his job I took our guests to Gruyères for some 'Swissness". It's a very picturesque and stunning, little town perched on top of a hill in the Swiss countryside. It's also where the famous cheese is made. Roy and I went there with our travel buddies Mitch and Lu last year but this time it was winter and like most things in Switzerland in winter, it was covered in glossy, white snow. It was so beautiful! We wandered, admired, ate, shopped, admired and wandered some more and snapped some photos along the way.

No visit to that part of Switzerland would be complete without a visit to Maison Cailler for a tour of the magical place where delicious chocolate is made. We learnt about the history of chocolate and how it came to be the product we know and love today. We observed the makings of "Branches", sampled from the tasting room and browsed the gift shop at the end. The tour is so reasonably prices for what you get considering the price of everything else in Switzerland. Ten Swiss Francs well spent, I say!

Then we played around a little bit in the playground outside - possibly due to a rush from eating so much chocolate.

Gruyères is possibly one of my favourite places to visit in Switzerland. It's so beautiful and any place that makes cheese and chocolate is excellent in my books.
