Genève

It's been quite a while since we did this trip but, well... I'm a bit slack with my blog posts. Roy and I decided that we should take advantage of the Australian Federal Election and head to Geneva to cast our votes at the Embassy and make a day of it exploring the city. We hopped on the train in Martigny and admired the views out of the train window for the hour and a half trip past the magnificent Lake Geneva. That train trip will never grow stale for me, passing through Montreux, Vevey and Lausanne all the while staring at the crystal clear waters of the Lake and the spectacular mountains in France on the opposite side.

We thought it would be best if we got the voting out of the way first so we could spend the rest of the day exploring. We jumped on a bus to the Embassy and gawked out of the windows as we passed The U.N. and it's fancy fountains and giant chair statue.

After we'd finished filling out the giant senate voting paper, we hopped back on the bus back to the centre of the city. The weather was perfect for a stroll along the boardwalk.

Beautiful water. It made me want to jump in for a paddle.

We couldn't resist a boat ride on such a beautiful day so we hopped on the nearest ferry which took us on a zig zag across the lake to the Botanical Gardens.

Art installation along the bank of the Lake

We found out this day that Switzerland is rich country. There is no shortage of shiny, fancy cars.

After a long day of walking, boating and sightseeing it was a sleepy, sunny train trip back to little, old Martigny.
